Antac repair flooring at BT Doncaster

Antac recently completed repair of a damaged floor area (320m²) within the canteen area at one of British Telecom’s offices in Doncaster. A small MEWP had been travelling through when it fell through the raised access floor resulting in a call from the local facilities manager. Replacement of the steel understructure with bracing stringers had to be installed along with high density particle board and new plywood to the area before fitting new vinyl flooring. The project was a challenging one since it had to be conducted at night, doing sections at a time, ensuring the canteen was operational and fit for purpose during the day for all BT staff over a six week period. BT were delighted with the quality of work and final repair at a cost of £30K.

Antac have been well recognised for their supreme effort, quality of technical works and prompt response times at RAF Northolt by one of their Flight Lieutenants whose comments read as follows:-

I just wanted to say that I have come across three members of your team who I think are exceptional in what they deliver to the station and should be recognised.

Oscar Fick, Andy Gabb and Jason King work tirelessly on anything that they deal with on a Station level so much so that I constantly get told how good they are and the impact their speedy response to the stations needs is having.

I would also like to say a special thank you to the Antac team in making sure that the Airfield lights were restored after the Power Outage last week. I am aware that they had to work till early in the morning and just wanted to say thanks.

Providing that they are supported to continue to deliver in line with the Stations ever changing needs I think that we (Team Northolt) can only travel in one direction.”

New Boilers installed at Teesside Magistrates Court

Existing boilers at Teesside Magistrates Court in Middlesbrough were old and had become unreliable with continual reported faults and hence were de-commissioned and removed from site. Antac replaced the three boilers with new Ideal 760KW boilers and hi/low gas burners, each unit weighing over a tonne which required special lifting equipment and MEWPs to remove and install the new ones. Full replacement of the main shunt pumps and water heaters were needed as part of an end of life cycle project where the challenge was to ensure the courts had continued supply of heating and water. Each boiler was removed and commissioned before the next boiler could be de-commissioned and removed from site. The whole project value was £140K and completed in only a 6 week period where G4S were delighted with the final results and efficiencies achieved by the Antac team.

Antac Office Cleans at No 1 Workplace in UK

Antac are delighted to deliver high quality office cleaning services to Softcat (a leading provider of IT infrastructure) who topped the large company category award as “best workplace in the UK” presented by Great Place to Work® UK as a sustainable great workplace with a high-trust culture. Antac were initially approached by Softcat to provide a one off deep clean in their canteen and kitchen area.  The floor had been neglected and in desperate need of attention.  Our mobile team took to task at their Head Offices in Marlow housing over 400 staff, and the results and feedback were so impressive that we were invited back to discuss the cleaning contract which we were happily awarded.

  Antac at Royal Hospital Chelsea
The incumbent company had been struggling to provide staff, holiday and sickness cover and what was perceived as poor managerial support.   From day one, Antac retrained the staff, recruited further to back fill the short fall and increased the hourly rate to incentivise performance.  Louise Watts, Cleaning Director, took an active role managing the contract and a new supervisor was implemented.   Natalie Corporate Travel & Facilities Co-ordinator said ‘I have been really pleased with the changes; from day one there were significant improvements which benefitted all staff at Head Office.  We are still receiving positive feedback from Managers, staff always smiling, using initiative and getting on with the job’

Antac Employee receives G.O.C. Commendation Award at MoD Site

John Devlin (seen pictured second from right) has been impressively awarded the General Officer Commanding’s Commendation Award from the Major General of London District, CBE, at Wellington Barracks for outstanding services provided to the MoD. Additionally, on another occasion in the Officers Mess, a contractor had previously been working in the plantroom and had left a valve half open when the boilers got up to maximum temperature with very hot steam flooding the surrounding areas. John bravely entered the plantroom at considerable risk to close the valve and render the room safe. This combined action won John ‘The Employee of the Year for 2014’ where the ceremony (as shown) came about with John receiving a personal recommendation from Colonel Giles Stibbe for his devotion to duty. The G.O.C. is a Commendation for meritorious work above and beyond normal duty which was presented by GoC Major General Ed Smythe-Osbourne who is the most senior military figure in London.

Air Conditioning cools extended Server Room at leading Telecoms Company

Antac were instructed to provide a new upgraded cooling system for a server room at a leading telecoms company in Sunbury, London. Flood Repairs for the Magistrate’s Court

York suffered its worst flooding in a generation immediately after Christmas 2015. Antac were called upon by GEOAmey to provide a significant £100K refurbishment within the city to its Magistrate’s Court, a distinguished heritage building, resultant from the devastating floods. GEOAmey commented “the significant amount of work undertaken particularly within the cell area is testimony to the management and workforce of Antac.” This has resulted in an ever increasing profile for Antac within Yorkshire.

No Access – No Problem

Antac was requested to carry out specialist cleaning for the Prison Service.  This involved cleaning the roof and exterior cladding to the building. The challenge for our team was to implement a way of working safely from the roof, as an abseiling solution was required to clean the roof cladding. The building did not have eye bolts for our Rope Access Technicians to use and the roof covering was not suitable to use weighted Star Anchors, as this would damage the soft rubber roof coating.

Antac at Royal Hospital Chelsea

After considering all of the options for arranging safe access it was decided that the most effective solution would be to use weighted Star Anchors located at ground level which were connected to a safety cable and run over the top of the building, as shown in the figure above. This solution was designed by our own Rope Access Team and approved by the client before being used, this provided an excellent combination of ease of installation, cost effectiveness and safety.

A new evening supervisor was recruited to drive up quality standards and service improvements. To increase the effectiveness of the daytime housekeeping service, a large janitor trolley was introduced so they would have everything needed to improve productivity. All staff were provided with a new smart uniform to improve customer perception. A new regime of customer engagement was introduced through regular client meetings and monthly service performance reports.

Many of our customers have now been turning their attention towards projects which need to be completed before the onset of colder weather. Replacing boilers is carried out for a number of reasons. This can be because of obsolescence and serviceability, but it is often needed to achieve the efficiency of a modern condensing boiler. This will deliver significant savings in both fuel costs and CO2 emissions.

Antac recommend installing high efficiency Alpha condensing boilers, which can deliver up to 109% efficiency.  Antac has been awarded a number of boiler replacement projects to be completed by the end of 2014. Even though there is little heating requirement over the summer and autumn, there is a need to maintain heating for hot water supplies for all occupied buildings. To support these projects and to help reduce the high cost of renting temporary boilers, Antac has acquired two mobile gas boilers which will provide heating and hot water supplies during boiler replacements. Our own M&E technicians will install, commission and integrate the boilers with the building heating systems.

Antac Launches Cleaning Training Programme

Antac, which is a member of the British Institute of Cleaning Science, has launched a detailed training programme for cleaning operatives and supervisors. The programme covers 17 modules ranging from safety and hygiene, working with chemicals, cleaning tasks and using powered
equipment. Commenting on the introduction of the programme Louise Watts, Cleaning Director explained “This is an excellent way of driving forward the level of service which Antac provides to its customers. Far too often the cleaning industry suffers from a deserved reputation for poor training and support for cleaning operatives. Frequently staff get the blame for not meeting customer expectations, when they have received inadequate training to meet specific contract requirements and completing cleaning tasks effectively.”

Staff are issued with their own copy of the Antac Commercial Cleaning Training Manual, which covers the cleaning programme in an easy to follow narrative and pictorial format. Each element provides a detailed explanation of equipment needed, safety and method of operation. The manual contains a training record which is completed when an operative has successfully completed a training module or annual refresher course. Training is delivered at several key points:

Mobilisation - Ensuring that everyone has been thoroughly inducted for the contract and has been trained for the cleaning tasks needed.
On Job - Training delivered during the contract life, which is mandatory for new starters or if a new task or equipment is introduced.
Refresher - Annually all staff receive refresher training to ensure that safe working practices, efficiency and service consistency is maintained throughout the cleaning team.
Training is delivered on site so that it is relevant to the specific challenges of exceeding Antac’s excellent reputation for high standards. This is achieved through use of our in-house training specialists, “train the trainer” for supervisors and frequent tool box talks delivered by our Area Managers.

Barnados Newcastle Teenage Pregnancy and Independence Project targets young people, young carers and teenage parents between the ages of 13-25 in Newcastle, promoting their active participation in local decision making and influencing priorities around alcohol. The “Go Get it - for Barnados” campaign was tasked with obtaining donations of household cleaning products, baby items, non-perishable foods and
children’s activity sets. Antac welcomed the opportunity to support this project through giving something back to disadvantaged mothers and children by donating £1,500 worth of baby equipment to Barnados. Antac regularly supports charitable initiatives.

Batman & Robin put a smile on children’s faces at Oxford Hospital

"Holy Smoke Batman, we are needed for a tricky assignment.  Off to the Batmobile destination - John Radcliffe Hospital.  There is not a moment to lose."  The Caped Crusaders, armed with utility belts at the ready, arrived at the Hospital for their latest mission; re-instating some stainless steel central heating pipes which needed to be crimped.  The essential repairs needed superhero’s who were not scared to work at 100ft high.

The children on a nearby ward enjoyed watching our superhero's abseiling with all their equipment.  The dynamic duo wasted no time to get the job done.

Well Robin, that’s another fine job we’ve done!

St Michael’s School Landscaping

There was an area adjacent to the school entrance which could be landscaped to create a pleasant and useful part of the school grounds. The school was unable to carry out this work due to its budgetary constraints. The project was organised in collaboration with one of the Princes Charities, Business in the Community. The organisation aims to connect businesses with their local community and matched the school with the Carillion’s Facilities Department at the John Radcliffe Hospital.

Antac donated two men for three days to carry out this landscaping project. The work was completed swiftly and to a very high standard. Headteacher, Sue Grundy commented "The improvement to this area of the school is quite remarkable and has made this particular area, one that the school can use for a variety of activities. As I speak, a group of children are using the area for a reading workshop with their teacher.
